Sedgefield, described by some as a sleepy village, is known for its year-round mild weather, making it an excellent holiday destination no matter the season. The laidback atmosphere is reflected in the town’s motto: “the tortoise sets the pace”. Bordering the Goukamma Nature Reserve and the Wilderness National Park, Sedgefield leaves visitors spoilt for choice when it comes to bird watching opportunities and nature activities.

The town’s economy greatly relies on tourism, with people drawn from far and wide by the number of popular attractions. A major draw card to Sedgefield is the Wild Oats Market held every Saturday morning, offering fresh produce and arts and crafts. Local attractions include Gericke’s lookout point which resembles a sleeping lion, and the protected dunes featuring Cape fynbos plantations and rare bird species. In addition, Sedgefield boasts a golf course (the Fynbos Links), a tennis court, and a bowls field. In order to accommodate the influx of tourists, especially during the summer season, Sedgefield hosts an array of accommodation, from guest houses to self-catering establishments.

The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe stops in Sedgefield on her trip between George and Knysna, and is well worth the ride if only for the breath-taking scenery. Don’t forget to visit Sedgefield Classic Cars, the Scarab Craft Market, and enjoy a picnic at Cloud 9 lookout while you’re here. The high vantage point offers magnificent views from Myoli Beach all the way to Gericke's Point.

The area surrounding Sedgefield is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Groenvlei Lake is the only fresh water lake in the area and is a popular spot for Bass fishing. It forms part of the Goukamma Nature Reserve and has some of the highest vegetated sand dunes in South Africa. Sedgefield’s surrounds are a plethora of fynbos, Lakeside, and forest hiking trails that will keep the energetic entertained for hours. Swartvlei is one of the largest lakes in the Sedgefield, providing safe swimming and fishing.

Sedgefield hosts an array of exciting annual events. The “Paragliding Fly In” competition has earned Sedgefield a reputation amongst paragliders. The competition has been included in the Sedgefield Lakes Festival (held in September) at the same time as the Eastern Cape Yachting Provincials. Sedgefield Slow Festival includes a range of exciting outdoor activities, such as a geo-treasure hunt, fun dog walk, music trivia evening, food and wine pairing evening, beach dance party, and the Miss Slow Fest beauty pageant. Sedgefield Beach Festival features a unique blend of sports, live music, pampering, and kids’ activities, with beach volleyball, cricket, rugby, and soccer, as well as sandcastle competitions.
